Dennis Quaid wants to stop paying a sizable amount in child support to his ex-wife, Kimberly Buffington.
The *Parent Trap** *star filed a child support modification on May 22 in the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County, according to court documents obtained and reviewed by **.
According to Quaid citing the terms of their 2018 divorce, Quaid will no longer make these payments "when a child completes 12th grade (if still under 19 and a full-time high school student) or reaches the other enumerated endpoints, whichever occurs first," per court documents, filed.
Quaid now seeks to terminate the $13,750 monthly child support payments to real estate agent Buffington for their 18-year-old twins Zoe and Thomas after they graduate high school this year in May and June, respectively.

Quaid also requested an adjustment to the 2026 additional sum payment to Buffington, which he pays her if he makes more than $1,314,000 a year. For this year, Quaid requests that the bonus payment be "prorated to each child's graduation date rather than using Dennis' full-year 2026 income."
"Because these calculations yield child support, the obligation cannot lawfully extend beyond each child's eligibility date," Quaid's filing states.
Representatives for Quaid had no comment when reached by **.

Quaid told PEOPLE in 2023 that he identified as a "dorky dad" to his three kids. "I kind of feel like a dorky dad a lot because... especially my daughter makes me feel that way," he said at the time. "Very uncomfortable, awkward. Awkward. Teenagers are awkward."
Quaid added, "I love being a dad. I really do. I think I'm a good dad. It turned out so far so good. Jack really turned out well. I'm really proud of him, and Thomas and Zoe too."
The Emmy nominated actor admitted, "They're really just great kids. I love watching them grow up and watching them change. I look back on us when I was 15 and you just don't have a clue what's going to happen to you in your life. I don't have a clue what's going to happen with them either, but it's day by day that they're coming along."
