"Saturday Night Live" wasn't afraid to go to some odd – and shocking – places this weekend, as Nikki Glaser hosted a lively, at times surreal episode that took on everything from the government shutdown to Jennifer Hudson's spirit tunnel.
Glaser was live from New York for the Nov. 8 episode of "SNL," which opened with a sketch mocking President Donald Trump while tackling travel chaos in the U.S. and a number of other topics.
The cold open took place in the Oval Office and parodied a recent White House event about cutting the price of weight loss drugs, during which a man fainted behind the president. In the sketch, James Austin Johnson as Trump declared he had a "very normal" reaction to the man collapsing: "Just stand there and stare like a sociopath."
Johnson's Trump proceeded to riff on several other subjects, including rising grocery prices and flight delays amid the government shutdown.
"I promised grocery prices would plummet, and they did: They plummeted straight up," Johnson's Trump said. "People are saying, 'But sir, how will I afford my Thanksgiving turkey for my family?' Well, good news is your family's not coming, because all the planes are gone." A deal to end the government shutdown was announced the day after "SNL" aired.

After the cold open, Glaser shocked with a monologue that was divisive among viewers for its exploration of dark topics like sex trafficking and pedophilia. In a joke about asking her sister if she was OK with her 4-year-old nephew showering with her, Glaser said, "I was like, 'What if I molest him?' She was like, 'Would you?' I was like, 'No! I would never. That's disgusting. But that's what I'd say if I was gonna.'"

'SNL' takes on Jennifer Hudson's spirit tunnel, Mr. Beast, more
The first sketch after the monologue took place at a karaoke night, where a sister (Glaser) and brother (Tommy Brennan) creep everybody out by acting like a couple instead of siblings. The sketch was followed by a pre-recorded digital short about a celebrity, played by Glaser, being anxious about dancing down the hallway when she appears on Jennifer Hudson's talk show.

After a commercial break was a "Beauty and the Beast" sketch where Glaser played Belle and YouTube star MrBeast, played by Ben Marshall, took the place of the Beast. Next up was a pre-recorded short: A faux commercial for life-size American Girl dolls, which are initially presented as innocent, only for it to become clear that men will use them for sex.
Glaser then starred in a sketch where she and Sarah Sherman play women who ride a mechanical bull at a bachelorette party, which takes them out of the bar and on a journey across the United States and through space and time.

After musical guest Sombr performed "12 to 12," on "Weekend Update," Colin Jost mocked Trump's "chill" reaction to the man fainting behind him in the Oval Office, while Michael Che joked about critics of Zohran Mamdani saying the New York City mayor-elect is both a far-left radical and a jihadist. "He can't be far left and a jihadist," Che said. "I mean, what do you think he's going to do? Turn ISIS into They-SIS?"

Pete Davidson makes surprise return to 'SNL,' says he's 'excited' to be a dad
Former "SNL" cast member Pete Davidson joined "Weekend Update" in a surprise return to discuss his and Jost's purchase of a Staten Island Ferry boat that they hope to turn into an entertainment venue.
"In case you're wondering why I had to do a show in Saudi Arabia, we're losing millions on this ferry," Davidson joked, referring to his controversial participation in the Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia. He also referenced the fact that he is expecting his first child, quipping that he's "excited to be a dad and give it all the energy and enthusiasm I never had for this show."
Next up was a sketch where a group of sorority girls suspect one of their members is a frat guy wearing a mask, and then an animated short about a dad trying to do outdoor activities with his gamer son.
For the last stretch of the show, Johnson played a pilot walking passengers through his texts with a woman he met on a dating app, while Glaser starred as a woman giving childhood characters a pinwheel to say goodbye to them as she leaves a fantasy land reminiscent of "Alice in Wonderland," only for them to become oddly obsessed with it. Sombr also performed his song "Back to Friends."
Who's hosting 'SNL' next?
"SNL" will return on Nov. 15 with host Glen Powell and musical guest Olivia Dean.
