Joel reflected on how quickly time has passed and revealed what he credits his lasting marriage to during his appearance on the Jennifer Hudson Show

Joel McHale is inching closer to a major marriage milestone.
The actor and comedian, 54, will celebrate 30 years of marriage with his wife, Sarah Williams McHale, in July. Ahead of their wedding anniversary, Joel reflected on how quickly time has passed in his relationship and revealed his secret to a lasting marriage during his appearance on the Jennifer Hudson Show on Tuesday, April 14.
"When I say 30 years, I'm like, 'That's, like, a person. That's a person who's an adult and has a job and is losing their hair,' " the Animal Control star joked. "So we look at each other, and I'm like, 'Where did the time go? And why are you still with me?' "
He added, "We went on our first date in 1993!"

Three years later, Joel and Sarah tied the knot on July 20, 1996. Since then, the couple have welcomed two sons — 21-year-old Eddie in January 2005 and 18-year-old Issac in 2008.
"I look at them and I'm like, 'Where did the time go with them?' " Joel said to host Jennifer Hudson, 44. "They were little babies that you could hold and throw in the air and now they're just covered in hair."

"I look back, I still can't believe it," he continued.
Joel said that "the perfect way to stay married for a long time" is solo getaways.
"I'm not kidding, my wife goes on vacation without us," Joel said. "She absolutely does, 'cause she's like, 'I need a real break.' And so, she'll book a trip with a couple of her friends and go away for like 10 days."

On the couple's 29th anniversary last year, the House of Villains host posted a cuddly photo with Sarah and their pet dogs on Instagram. He wrote that their wedding seemed "like yesterday" and thanked her for loving him.
For her part, Sarah shared a throwback and two current photos of the couple on Instagram. She wrote in part, "Our marriage is the age people usually stop counting their birthdays. Somehow in this crazy, confused world of ours, @joelmchale and I found our ways to each other in late 1993."
