Joey Lawrence is setting the record straight about the injuries he sustained in a recent accident.
The Blossom alum, 49, appeared with visible bruises and cuts on his face on the Friday, November 7, episode of his “Brotherly Love Podcast” with siblings Andy and Matthew Lawrence.
“So, here’s the story. I was doing with my youngest daughter, Dilly, I was pushing her. She loves to be pushed like on a roller coaster,” Joey said while describing what happened to him. “She jumped into these Amazon boxes and she’s like, ‘Box ride!’ So, I push her through the hallways, through the house. And I’ve done this, by the way, a hundred times with her.”
He continued: “Downstairs, we can go all the way from the front door all the way to the back door, and there’s this one threshold between the dining room and the kitchen area where it goes from hardwood into the marble floor. I’d been over it in the boxes a hundred times.”

Despite Joey’s experience with pushing boxes in the area, his last trip around the route ended differently.
“I was like, ‘All right, this is the last one.’ So I was low and I was pushing her and we were not going dangerously fast, but we were getting a good speed because she loved it,” he recalled. “For some reason, we get this little threshold, and the box completely stopped. This little box did not move. In that matter of seconds, she was gonna fly out.”

In an effort to save his daughter from harm, Joey ended up injuring himself.
“I lunge to get her, and praise God, I caught her with both of my hands, and I got her back in the box,” he explained. “And my momentum when I got her back in the box, I had to jump to get her. I basically flung myself over and realized when my hands are back here and she was in the box, that nothing was between me and the floor.”
Joey ultimately suffered quite a bit of damage when he fell.
“All I could see, literally, not to be too graphic, is a wall of red. I couldn’t see anything, but I knew something really bad [had happened],” he said. “My head, no joke, was split about three and a half inches. They called it, like, a skin splinter.”
Joey noted that hospital staff glued parts of his injury and stitched other parts.
“The skin was so delicate and so wide that they weren’t able to pull it,” he said. “So they had to flap it, pull it over and glue, and I had four stitches on each side.”
Joey shares his daughter Dylan, 2, with wife Samantha Cope, whom he wed in May 2022. Although she filed for divorce in August 2024, Joey and Cope, 38, reconciled and dismissed their divorce filing later that year.
Joey is also the father of daughters Charleston, 19, and Liberty, 15, with ex-wife Chandie Yawn-Nelson, whom he was married to from 2005 to 2022.
